Thessaloniki (Salonica)

Thessaloniki is the setting of the prequel novella The Bread of the Stranger — the great Greek port city, once the heart of Sephardic Jewish Europe, under occupation in 1941–43. It is the ancestral city behind the Reid family and the source of a grandmother's unbreakable, hard-learned faith. The story told there is handled with care for the history it carries.
